handkerchief bag

image

when i got the fabric for gigi’s dress i wasn’t sure where i’d use the ant-printed one. but it was too perfect to pass up.

it’s exactly what i thought of when i thought “picnic”.
so i used it to make a coordinating bag for her

i wanted to make a little challenge for myself—i designed the pattern as one piece repeated 4x to create the body and lining of the bag:

i call it “two bunnies in a box”

this piece, 4 times, plus a long strip for a boxing.
the sewing process is similar to making sandwiches.

what?
:)

you have to sandwich the boxing between two sides, and then sew {almost} all the way around, leaving only a small hole to turn it out…

giving you this…

one side down. (i put a little pocket inside, too)
then you sandwich your completed side, along with the opposite side of the boxing, with your other 2 pieces, and sew them {almost} all the way around:

and turn that out to this:

i stitched up the opening—adding in a little tag…

and it’s done.
i used some handles i had…

clearance! whoot!

and tied the ‘rabbit ears’ on…

(nice tight knots for security. you could throw a couple stitches in them if you want to be extra safe)

and that’s it. easy peasy.

although—matching the bag to the dress?

ooohhh…tres gauche, mon cher… ;)

although, i suppose we could give her a pass

seeing as she was fashionable enough

to wear different colored shoes
